Rural Retreats & More

Tours of Spain often only include the cities, however, here at Spanish Detours we can offer so much more.

There are beautiful national parks in the area including El Torcal, which has a unique eerie appearance due to thousands of years of weather erosion. Take a choice of long and short walks through this landscape and capture some stunning photos.

A drive through the Montes de Malaga mountains offers a pleasant route to the often ignored, but superb city of Malaga. The views and traditional ventas along the way serving authentic Andalucían meals are just a short ride from Riogordo.

Andalucía is famous for its stunningly beautiful white villages, and we have one right on our doorstep. The white village of Comares, dating back to Roman times, has a fascinating footprint tour and the 7 kilometre drive to it is an experience in itself.

All of these towns and villages, to name but a few, offer very diverse attractions.

There are a number of shimmering lakes in the area including the Fuente de Piedra, where you may have the opportunity to see flamingos in their natural environment, or if you'd prefer there's always the donkey sanctuary nearby or the fantastic caves and Balcon de Europe at Nerja are all in the area.

In addition to the above, a varied range of activities can be arranged for you, such as guided walks, horse riding, watersports, golf and beauty treatments. Flamenco dancing shows and the Andalucían horse shows offer great nights out.

We can also arrange for you to visit a traditional bodega, where wine has been produced for over 150 years through eight different generations of the same family.

Also depending upon which time of year you choose to travel, there may be a Fiesta or event to attend enabling you to see how Spanish people really celebrate their special occasions.

Evenings in Riogordo will be where you'll experience a truly authentic Spanish atmosphere. See in the testimonials left by our guests how they have all fallen in love with this idyllic town, that hasn’t given itself over to tourism but where life continues as it has done for hundreds of years.

As you can see, the choices are endless and you have the final say when selecting your itinerary enabling you to combine touring time and relaxing time to suit your needs.
